Real Wedding Description

Emily and Jeff had a storybook Washington D.C. wedding. Preparation at the Sofitel, a minibus took the couple and bridal party to the Capitol building for portraits – where Lower Senate Park was filled with quinceañera parties and another wedding second lining through, beads and all- and finally to the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

(I cannot emphasize enough the beauty of the hired minibus. No parking issues to consider but more importantly the lubrication of the bridal party was in full force as the bottle of Johnny Walker was passed around.)

The museum set up the “chuppah” in a perfect spot, just in front of the mezzanine, enabling my second photographer to shoot from directly above. And credit goes to the staff at the museum for cleaning up a broken water-filled candle votive right before the start of the ceremony.

Emily and Jeff thought of everything. Casual lounge areas on the wings, and world renowned DJ Neil Armstrong spinning a fantastic mix of music.

I learned from the staff at the museum that the building used to be a movie theater in the early 20th century. The walls and ceilings were all black. I cannot imagine the difficulty in photographing a place like that. Thank god I don’t need to because the renovation a couple of decades ago made one of Washington D.C.’s best venues for an event. And I don’t think a grander staircase exists in a DC venue.
