Whenever I tell people I’m heading to Idaho, they ask, “Idaho?? Why?” I’m guessing it’s because they’ve never been there, because it’s really quite beautiful. Having photographed several wedding and portrait assignments there, the landscape is always stunning.
Katie and Justin’s destination wedding was in McCall, a resort town in the mountains which I’d never visited. Whether for skiing, boating, vacationing, or camping, it’s a mile-high destination for southern Idaho.
I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. Katie and Justin (who are from Buffalo, New York, and Buhl, Idaho) decided to have their wedding at McCall’s Shore Lodge, right on the Payette Lake. It’s a beautiful, classic lodge, and each room has a lake view–as does the high-ceiling log-construction ballroom. In fact, the ballroom wall overlooking the lake is not only made of glass, but is open to the air during the reception. It was stunning.
Katie is a hoot to work with, full of spunk and humor, and a real ham in front of the camera, which I adore. She had opportunity to put on her I’ve-been-watching-America’s-Next-Top-Model moves more than once. And Justin and his guys…they had more humorous photo ideas than we could even keep up with.
The bride and groom kept asking me if there was a way they could make their wedding good enough to be on my website, and I reassured them it already was…
Even though we are Portland wedding photographers, we love to travel to destination weddings–whether in Idaho, or Thailand, or Mexico, or Europe. It’s such a delight working with spunky brides, creative grooms, and beautiful locations. We just love telling love stories.
