Big Fat Greek Wedding in Bloemfontein
This crazy couple flew me from Italy to South Africa. For those of you who don’t know where Bloemfontein is, lets just say I had to catch three planes to get there and I am terrified of flying. I live in Ravello, one of the most beautiful towns in the word and honestly I wondered what a wedding in the middle of nowhere would have to offer. I was completely mistaken and I thoroughly enjoyed being proven wrong.
The people were warm, kind and a huge amount of fun. From the groomsmen shaving the groom with water from the garden waterfall, to the cowboy boots to explore the bush; fun was had by all. I loved shooting these two joyful people. It made me happy being around them and I hope it shows in the pictures.
The best part was the party, where the dance floor had to be cleared of plates. It had to be cleared at least four times with spades! And let’s be honest when one thinks of cool, Bloemfontein is not the first city that pops to mind, but the décor was truly delicious. A perfect mix between old and new, using white as the connecting thread. What really helped the photography was the lighting. I had no need for a flash the light was so good. They also gave me a lot of time to shoot the two of them in the African bush at sunset.
This was one of my favourite weddings of all time and I realised it’s the people that make good pictures. And of course good light!
