I was very excited at the opportunity to photograph this wedding in Cartagena. Colombia is like a second home to me. I have spent years traveling around the country and it where I met my wife (who is from a town near Cartagena).
Maria Teresa, the bride, is a Colombian who now lives in Washington, DC and the groom Raj is Indian. In order to honor both of their traditions, they had a Catholic ceremony on Saturday followed by a Hindu ceremony on Sunday. The Catholic ceremony was held at an beautiful old Spanish cathedral followed by an outdoor reception on top of old city walls outside the Museum of Modern Art. The Sunday ceremony and party were held at an old Spanish colonial mansion (Casa Pestagua) that has been converted into a hotel.
Maria and Raj are an amazing couple, very successful and yet completely down to earth, genuine people– and I could say the same for their friends and families. When the weekend was over, I was completely exhausted from 20 hours of shooting, and yet slightly sad that the magic weekend was over.
