This is an extraordinary and unique story, just like its characters: Agata and Alfonso. She is Polish – beautiful, delicate, subtle and sensitive. He is Italian – handsome, gallant, caring and temperamental. Why this story? Well, because it begins quite ordinary and ends incredibly. When I arrived at the bride’s home, where wedding preparations took place, it was a cold and rainy morning. I thought that Agata would be disappointed because of the weather, but to my surprise all the family were disgusted with weather, but not the bride! She was smiling and was very happy.
During putting the wedding dress on, Agata said to me in secret that she’s very excited because they will spend their honeymoon in USA. Immediately a thought ran through my mind: When?! Maybe at the same time as I’ll be there? It turns out that yes, and that we will be in New York for two days in exact same time. Not wondering any longer I asked: Would you fancy a photo session in Central Park or Manhattan or Time Square? Agata smiled and asked: “Are you talking seriously?” I replied: “Yes, I am absolutely serious!” Moments later, the clouds disappeared and the beautiful sun came out and happy newlyweds left the church as husband and wife.
Two months later, we were standing with my friend, great photographer David Mielcarek, near the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue in New York waiting for appointed session with Agata and Alfonso. Dark clouds were in the sky and it started raining – we were worried, because we had only one day to make these photos. Suddenly, all of a sudden the clouds disappeared, the sun came out and from the depth of the crowd emerged two characters – smiling and happy newlyweds Agata and Alfonso.
During the next few hours we were running around New York. We started in Central Park, then Downtown, followed by Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge and ended this wonderful afternoon at Times Square. I hope that the following photographs reflect of at least some percentage of the atmosphere and character of this incredible Polish-Italian pair.
