la Antigua, Guatemala is one of the oldest cities in Central & South America, dating back to 1524 and its Spanish colonial architecture and scenic mountains are now the backdrop of some of the most beautiful weddings in the world. Maria & Stephen hosted close to 400 guests – half of them flying in from all over the USA.
Maria’s family is originally from la Antigua and the wedding ceremony honored the traditions of Guatemala at the Casa Santo Domingo Cathedral & Hotel. The ceremony was lit by 2,000 candles and a symphony orchestra entertained everyone while they waited for Maria’s arrival. The reception was a blow-your-mind party with a 21-piece band that played until 4:00 a.m. to a packed dance floor.
I attend quite a few destination weddings every year and I have to say Casa Santo Domingo in la Antigua tops the list. I would recommend this location to any couple considering a wedding in Latin America. The city of la Antigua is accessible, friendly and there are lots of English-speaking vendors. This particular venue is is host to many international weddings of all sizes.
