Caroline and Garrett did not want to see each other until after their wedding ceremony. A matter of tradition I assumed, until after the ceremony when I saw how much these guys loved to kiss! I now realize that if they hadn't been kept apart, the bridal party would have had to pry them apart with crowbars so they could continue with the wedding day!
My wife Karen and I began to photograph a few hours before the ceremony, me with the girls, Karen with the men. We then headed to the beautiful Emmanuel Episcopal Church in downtown Baltimore for the ceremony. Minutes before the ceremony began, the couple prayed together with their pastor Jim, holding hands while a door blocked their view of one another. After the ceremony, they had a giant first kiss (of course), a triumphant march down the aisle, and then they were off to Mount Vernon Square for some couple portraits.
The reception was at the Elkridge Club, a beautiful country club I was happy to come back to. The weather was ideal for an outdoor cocktail hour as well as for family formal group shots. The staff at the club was really friendly and allowed me to take portraits out on the golf fairway, and I'm happy to say nobody was nailed by a Titliest on my watch! Later we moved inside to the upstairs ballroom for dances, speeches, the cake cutting and some really great food. The night ended with an innovative sparkler and bubble departure.
