Rioja wines are famous the world over and a trip to the wineries that produce them has long been on afficcionados' bucket lists. Increasingly, thanks to their often stunning locations and equally unique architecture, Rioja wineries are becoming a sought after place to get married. Wineries, such as Bodegas Vivanco, Briones, La Rioja, Spain, can not only offer a fresh, modern and relaxed setting for a celebration but also a link to a traditional industry. The fact that industry happens to be wine is, I guess, a bonus for many couples!
Vivanco, located in Briones, was one of the first places I visited when I moved to La Rioja because of its fantastic museum charting the history of wine in the region. Amy & Carl’s was the first wedding I’d shot at Vivanco and in fact was one of the first to take place there; a reporter from the local newspaper turned up to record the event!
With its beautiful backdrop of the Sierra Cantábrica range, rows of lush vines and the ability to hold a banquet in an atmospheric ‘cathedral’ full of wine barrels, Vivanco made a great setting. It even has a charming little chapel on site.
