Real Wedding Description

I’ve been a wedding photographer for nearly a decade, and have been an exhibiting artist for even longer than that. So when I decided to combine the two aspects of image making, it seemed logical… to me. No one was really sure what a wedding photographed entirely with a Holga camera would look like, but having used Holgas for my personal artwork for several years prior to starting this method of photographing weddings, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect.

My signature technique of overlapping images in-camera directly onto the film is one that I utilize for my Holga wedding photography as well as my personal artwork. I do not use Photoshop to create my images at all, and print the images in the darkroom by hand the old fashioned way. Craft is key, and my experience and knowledge of my gear allows me to get fairly consistent results in any setting, despite the Holga’s reputation for being “unpredictable”.

This particular wedding was photographed on the grounds of Newton White Mansion in Mitchellville Maryland, which I have photographed weddings at several times before. I love the architecture and landscaping, and the mansion lends itself extremely well to both Holga and documentary photography.

While this method of wedding photography won’t appeal to every couple, it seems to gather the most interest from the artsy and/or independent spirits who want something cool from their wedding that not many other people will have. Being a little *different* myself, I get that need, and am here to provide it.
