When very talented wedding photographers (and friends) ask you to team up with likes of the awesome Shane Deringer to shoot their wedding, you feel a little blown away, flattered and a lot scared. LOL Cortes Island is a remote island off the West Coast of British Columbia, two ferry rides from Vancouver Island. It's a magical place where Darshan & Alex call home and it made for the perfect setting for their intimate, fun, and super silly wedding celebration. As artists themselves, these two wanted something different and unique for their wedding photos. Since they met at a local nude swimming whole, we did artistic nude engagement portraits the day before the wedding. They had their first look at the spot where they met, and then they had a traditional smudge ceremony to cleanse and purify them for their vows, while paying homage to the Coast Salish First Nations people. Everything at this wedding was hand-made, including an entire table full of pies, super silly felt crowns for guests to wear and the cake made of cheese. When people took their seats they began singing the the bride and groom up the aisle, bringing Darshan and Alex to tears when they arrived with their flower-dog. After the post-ceremony happy dance, they broke up into relay teams according to felt crown colour to see who would get to eat first. Darshan beat out Alex's team by a nose. Sunset brought on some funny songs and dances… plus a “first dip” Cortes Island style. As a wedding photographer, this was an incredible day full of eye candy, and as a friend it was a true honour.
